Yoga for Scoliosis – Part One : May 1-3, 2020

This workshop is designed to present information and experience in ways that Iyengar Yoga can be applied to meet the challenges of scoliosis. Participants will learn how to adapt specific postures to their scoliosis. Combining yoga postures with breath awareness can improve structural alignment and enhance symmetry and balance.

Appropriate for anyone with scoliosis whether currently a yoga student or not. Teachers are urged to attend to gain understanding and skill when assisting students with scoliosis.

FRI @ 5:30 – 8 pm
Elise will discuss the physical and psychological causes and effects of scoliosis, identify different patterns of scoliosis and introduce postures beneficial for scoliosis. A power point presentation will be followed by a short yoga session emphasizing lengthening the spine and aligning the body with breath awareness in beginning poses. In order for Elise to clearly identify your scoliosis, please wear a light-colored top or sports bra.

SUN @ 10 am – 12:30 pm
Participants learn to work with their particular scoliosis in a variety of yoga poses including standing postures, back strengtheners, twists, inversions and forward bends.

Cost: $65 per class, $250 workshop

Elise Browning Miller, M.A. (Therapeutic Recreation) is a Senior Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT), and a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) who specializes in Scoliosis, back problems and sports related injuries . She has been teaching yoga throughout the US and internationally for over 30 years. Elise has successfully used yoga to minimize the effects of her own scoliosis. She has co-authored a comprehensive book Yoga for Scoliosis – A Path for Students and Teachers, as well as a Yoga for Scoliosis DVD and booklet, Yoga for Back Care booklet, and her book, Yoga: Anytime, Anywhere. Her joyous personality and ease of communication endear her to students with a teaching style that is down-to-earth, precise and nurturing.
