Pranayama: Energy and Tranquility

August 24

Pranayama is the fourth limb of the eight petaled flower of yoga. According to the Yoga Sutras, it presupposes some degree of proficiency in asana prior to embarking on this more inward and subtle path. The breath can be used to either charge the body with vitality or soothe the nerves with serenity. In this workshop you will learn how to use inhalation and exhalation to awaken the dormant potential that combines restfulness and alertness at the same time. Restorative poses, deep relaxation, proper sitting postures, and digitally controlled breathing exercises will be explained, demonstrated, and practiced. Come and find out, through direct experience, why seasoned practitioners would rather miss a day of asanas, but not a day of pranayama.

Students must have at least six months of previous Iyengar experience, or permission of the instructor.

Instructor: Gabriel Halpern
Cost: $50
